The Academy of Language Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Kedah branch is proud to present the 2nd International Conference on Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics (ICMAL) 2023 as our main thrust to highlight our commitment to contribute to the scholarship in the areas of language, linguistics, literature, education, business as well as the social sciences.
ICMAL 2023 aims to provide a platform for educators, academicians and researchers to share their ideas, findings, knowledge and experience, particularly on acclimatising language teaching and learning in the post-pandemic landscape. The scholarly exchange and interaction will also greatly benefit the delegates by expanding their professional network and relationship.
Objective
This is a hybrid conference open to undergraduates, postgraduates, academicians, scholars, policy makers and industry practitioners who are involved in the teaching and learning of language, linguistics, literature, education, business as well as the social sciences.
Five (5) best selected full papers will be awarded RM200 (USD55) and e-cert.
All presenters and participants will receive e-certs.

Prof Dato' Dr Imran Ho Abdullah
Centre for Research in Language and Linguistics

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia
Prof Dato’ Dr. Imran Ho Abdullah is a professor at the Centre for Research in Language and Linguistics at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (the National University of Malaysia) where he currently provides stewardship for the research team on corpus linguistics and digital humanities at the Centre.
He convened the Malaysia Corpus Research Symposium 2022 and also oversaw five symposiums on Digital Humanities. His research interests are in cognitive semantics and corpus linguistics and. He has supervised over 30 PhD students and published over 100 articles / books in his field. He is a Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Society and served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Partnership) at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia from 2015 -2021.

Professor Imran has a First Class Honours (in English) from the University of Otago, New Zealand, a Diploma in Education with Distinction from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, a Master of Philosophy (in Linguistics) from the University of Cambridge, as well as a PhD in Cognitive Semantics from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He has also attended the Executive Programme on Crisis Leadership in Higher Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) and Harvard Kennedy School (HKS). He has been a Fellow of the Cambridge Commonwealth Society since 1990.

Prof. Dr Anealka Aziz Hussin is an accomplished academician and researcher in the field of Education, with a focus on e-learning, corpus-based studies, readability studies, and ELT materials development. She is currently affiliated with the Akademi Pengajian Bahasa at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in Shah Alam, Selangor.
She has an extensive academic background, having completed a Ph.D. in Education from UiTM in 2010, an MSc. in TESL from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in 2003, an MS in Educational Technology from UPM in 2002, and a Postgraduate Diploma in TESL from Institut Teknologi MARA in 1997. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Economics (Hons.) from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa in 1996.

Throughout her career, she has held numerous leadership positions, including Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Modern Languages and Applied Linguistics and Deputy Dean (Academic) at Akademi Pengajian Bahasa, UiTM. She has also served as the Head of IT & Training Unit, Head of Graduate Studies (Coursework), Head of e-Content Development, Deputy Director of the Department of e-Learning Technology, and Head of the Centre of Studies for the Bachelor of Applied Language Studies (Hons.) English for Intercultural Communication (LG243).
She has a great interest in e-learning, instructional design, readability studies and corpus-based research. She has published in journals, chapters in books and served on several journal and conference committees. She has presented papers at conferences and seminars in some countries. She also has conducted training and workshops in e-learning and the application of Education 4.0 in Malaysia. She has won several research and innovation awards for her work in these areas.

The conference will award five (5) Best Paper Awards to the five best papers. Each paper will receive a copy of “Best Paper Award”. The Jury will conduct a review and evaluate the paper based on its uniqueness, title, abstract, key words and relevant research matters.
